ACCA Exam Countdown: You’ve done it before, so do it again!
Every week in the run-up to the ACCA exams in December, Caron Betts will be guiding us through exam preparation from a tutor’s point of view.
This week is exam week. There are just a few days (or even hours for some) left before the “big day” and my time is spent dealing with last-minute technical queries and providing that last-minute confidence boost.
We have spent weeks preparing for this event, and now it is time to show just how great you are.
Let me tell you about Alex.
|A couple of years ago I went to watch Alex play a local football match. He would have been around 6 at the time. The whistle blew and the opposing team ran with the ball and quickly scored a goal. That was to be repeated frequently throughout the game. Alex and his team weren’t great at running with the ball, weren’t great at passing and – with a score line of 13-0 – clearly, they weren’t great at defending either!|
But Alex was determined.
He learnt how to dribble, how to receive a pass and how to change direction with the ball. He did it over, and over again.
When I saw Alex play last month, I could see his hard work paying off. He brought all the skills that he had spent hours practising onto the pitch and, when it mattered, he played good football. He was running for the ball, trying to stop the goals and being ready for whatever came his way. Suddenly his team were no longer losing, but winning. This season the team have won 7 games and only lost one, with score lines of 5-0 in their favour.
Alex’s practice means that when it matters, he can do it.
And that’s what I need my students to realise this week.
They can do a consolidated cashflow, prepare an income tax computation or calculate the optimal production plan – whatever is required in their subject – because they have practised.
Therefore, to anyone sitting an ACCA exam this week, the time for practice is over and now it’s your chance to show just how great you are.
